Your child’s health and well-being are important to us here at St. Joseph School. Let’s work together to keep our children healthy and happy this year!
*Remember to call the school when your child is absent. A phone call or email is required for all absences
*Please keep your child home if they are sick! Your child must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol/Motrin in order to return to school
*If your child has a communicable disease (ex. Strep throat, lice, conjunctivitis, ringworm, flu), it is your responsibility to notify the health office. If your child requires antibiotic therapy, they need to be kept home for at least 24 hours on the medicine and feeling better before they return to school. As always, this information is kept confidential
*All medications that are to be given out by the nurse must have a written doctor’s order and written parent permission. The medication must be handed into the health office in the original container. This includes OTC meds such as Tylenol/Motrin as well
*If your child has an illness/injury that will limit their participation in gym/recess, a note from the doctor must be submitted to the health office. It must have an end date for when the student can resume activities, or, a second note is required stating they are cleared to return
Mandated Physicals
Physical examinations are REQUIRED by NY State for all NEW students and students entering grades K, 1, 3, 5 and 7. All physicals must be submitted on the required NY State Physical exam form. As of Sept, 2019, there will be no exceptions. These forms are due back the first week of school in September. Physicals performed within 12 months of school entrance are considered valid.
It is also recommended that your child be examined by a dentist 2x/year for cleanings and an examination
Immunizations
All students must be immunized according to NY State requirements. Proof of immunizations must be submitted on doctor’s letterhead and submitted prior to school entrance. Please see the documents at the bottom of this page regarding immunization requirements and exemption FAQs. Religious exemptions are no longer accepted in New York State as of 2019.
Mandated Screenings
During the school year, the following screenings will be performed per the regulations of NY State:
Vision: distance and near acquity for all new entrants and students in grades K, 1, 3, 5 & 7. Color perception screening for all new entrants including kindergarten
Hearing: pure tone screening for all new entrants and students in grades K, 1, 3, 5 &7
Scoliosis: screening for girls in grades 5 & 7. Your daughter may be excluded if the screening was indicated on the doctor’s physical form
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have!
